More often than not, some of our best statement pieces always make their way to our living rooms and bedrooms while bringing together art culture and heritage. So, why restrict ourselves to keep the most intimate corner of our abode devoid of artistic aesthetic. Such is the Artize philosophy. To change the way we perceive the most personal corners of our spaces, luxury bathware brand Artize, in collaboration with AD India delves into the homes of celebrated architects and interior designers in a video series titled ‘The Artboard’.
In The Artboard Season 2, Artize spotlights India as the ultimate inspiration for architects and interior designers and the thought process that goes behind designing an opulent yet functional space that is rooted in the brand’s ‘Born From Art’ philosophy. The first episode of the second edition features Darshini Shah, an eminent interior designer whose work is steeped in spirituality and Indian craftsmanship through Pichwai, an ancient form of art.
AN ODE TO HERITAGE
Indian craftsmanship, art and culture are at the core of Darshini Shah’s design sensibilities. In the first episode of The Artboard Season 2, we get an insight into her travels to Rajasthan and the different ways she integrates this into her artistic vision—be it for sourcing or inspiration. Moreover, Shah also speaks about Nathdwara and Pichwai and the role these elements play in her designs. “The one place that I constantly like going back to is Rajasthan. I visit the state for sourcing and inspiration. If you’ve ever been to Rajasthan, Pichwai is seen everywhere. But for me, it all started in Nathdwara. Nathdwara is about a lot of art, craft and colour and Pichwai is something I could carry forward from there.”
AS DESIGNERS, WE LIKE TO PUSH BOUNDARIES. AND IT’S THE SAME WITH ARTIZE WHERE IT’S ALL ABOUT CAPTURING THE INDIAN ESSENCE INTO A MODERN, FUNCTIONAL PRODUCT
As we tour this AD 100 designer’s home, we notice a modern, dynamic space with traditional elements and artefacts in vibrant colours that create a striking ambience in sync with nature. Additionally, we also see a lot of Pichwai motifs on the colourful hand-painted walls and murals.
Shah is also a big advocate for sustainability and collaborations with Indian artisans and craftsmen skilled in traditional art forms. Speaking about including eco-conscious elements in her projects, she says, “When I go sourcing, I look for old crafts because I love reusing, recycling and refurbishing. It’s nice to push boundaries with designs and it’s the same with Artize where it’s all about capturing the Indian essence into a modern, functional product which is true to the Indian craftsmanship but at the same time it’s very global and relevant to today’s times.”
TAILWATER BY ARTIZE
The sophisticated signature product by Artize, Tailwater mirrors a zoomorphic, abstract image of a bird, perched on the edge of a pool, much like the murals in Shah’s home. A masterclass in minimalist design, this bathware product brings together sleek lines, classic arches and geometric precision. The luxurious and elegant faucet’s biomorphic design channels the energy of water streaming through it in a gentle, private stream—seeking only to calm and relax. With elegant curves, tapered angles and a clean design— this striking piece of bathroom fi tting is the epitome of form-meetsfunction that raises the bar for luxury bathrooms everywhere.
